The Value Factories

College talent rankings tell you who sends the most players to the NFL. This asks a harder question: which programs return the most on-field value per unit of draft capital spent on them. Every drafted player is measured against the value a pick of that round returns on average — so a program that turns late-round picks into stars rises, and one that squanders premium capital falls.

Method

Each drafted player's surplus = career VAL minus the empirical mean VAL of all players drafted in the same round bucket (1–7, pooled 8+). A program's ROI is its mean player surplus. Players without a draft round or a VAL number are excluded, never counted against a program. Programs below the volume floor are not ranked.
